You learned how to do it when you were a toddler…

And today, you do it hundreds… if not THOUSANDS of times a day (without a second thought) …

And it may be the key to helping you live longer!

Folks, I’m talking about WALKING.

Sure, it may not be as hip or cool as running, going to a spin class, or even lifting weights…

But this time-tested, simple movement is one of the best ways to help extend your life and reduce your risk of death by as much as 32%!

According to a study presented at the American Heart Association’s Epidemiology and Prevention Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health Conference, people who walk more steps daily have a significantly lower death risk than those who were less active.

The study looked at women over the age of 60 and found:

  • A 32% decrease in death among those who took at least 2,000 steps a day…
  • And another 28% decrease in death for each additional 1,000 steps a day.

The study also noted that these ‘steps’ don’t need to happen all the same time. Breaking up your walks into shorter bursts throughout the day is also good for your overall health.

The bottom line?

Whether you take long, extended walks… or short, quick walks around the block… they are ALL good for you!

And if you think walking is reserved for folks that can’t ‘move’ like they used to… think again!

A study conducted by OnePoll found that walking is becoming a PREFERRED mode of transportation among adults of all ages… with nearly 60% of respondents saying they are willing to walk a full mile before seeking other modes of transportation.

If you’re already engaged in a consistent walking routine… keep it going! And if you can squeeze in some extra steps in the process, it’s only going to help you.

If you find it challenging, remember… you don’t have to get all your walking in one, single time.

A quick 20-30 minute stroll in the morning… followed by another 20-30 minutes later in the day is a great way to stay active.

To getting in your steps,

Sarah Reagan
