“New” supplement curbs leading cause of BLINDNESS?!
Is it me, or do routine eye doctor appointments take FOREVER?
Gone are the days of reading a few charts and calling it a day…
These days you get hooked up to all kinds of machines and gadgets that examine every square inch of your eye balls – inside and out!
And while a visit to your eye doctor may feel tedious… there’s a good reason you’re getting prodded with all those tests.
It’s not about getting glasses, contacts, or updating your prescription…
It’s about detecting serious eye disease like age-related macular degeneration (AMD) – which just so happens to be the leading cause of blindness in seniors.
Even worse? There’s NO CURE for AMD.
But today I’ve got the details on a “new” supplement that can prevent AMD from setting in.
And it’s going to make those eye doc visits a lot more tolerable!
For the past 10 years, researchers with the National Eye Institute have been desperately looking for a fool-proof way to curb the devastating effects of AMD.
They didn’t come up with a cure…
But they recently announced how a “new” dietary supplement could PREVENT macular degeneration…
Which could ultimately save the vision of millions of seniors.
It’s a modified version of the AREDS2 formula, which contains the vision-supporting antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin.
The original AREDS2 formula contained 500 mg vitamin C, 400 international units of vitamin E, 2 mg of copper, 80 mg of zinc, and 15 mg of beta-carotene.
But they later swapped the beta-carotene with 10 mg of lutein and 2 mg of zeaxanthin – a switch they found reduced the progression of AMD by 26%!
This is all great news, but we’ve been all over the vision-boosting effects of lutein and zeaxanthin for some time (not to toot our own horn).
These are great supplements to take (no matter your age) to support healthy eyes. You can’t go wrong with them… and they can be found at any health food store or vitamin aisle.
You can also find the updated AREDS2 formula pretty easily. Just do a quick Google search on where to find it in your area.
Lastly, don’t forget (or skimp) on those routine visits with your eye doctor. While rigorous, the technology used with today’s eye tests are really quite remarkable and can look deep inside your eyes to detect any abnormalities that can’t be picked up with a classic vision test.
To fending off AMD,
