Critical Reasons to NEVER Skip Breakfast [Seniors]
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
To this day, I still remember my mother nagging me about it!
But as we age, your busy lifestyle takes priority over eating breakfast. And most older adults feel okay not squeezing in breakfast each day.
However, if you find yourself skipping it more often than not, there’s research to suggest you may need to start making time for that ‘most important’ meal of the day.
Because findings now show you could be missing out on these critical health factors!
A study out of Ohio State University says older adults who skip breakfast miss out on FOUR key nutrients that are most abundant in common breakfast foods.
Those nutrients are…
Calcium (in milk) … vitamin C (in fruit), and a combination of fiber, vitamins, and minerals (in oatmeal).
You see, by ditching breakfast, the study found that your body could be very LOW on these essential nutrients the rest of your day.
Researchers in the study also found that you’re less likely to ‘make up’ for missing them.
Think about it…
If you skip a breakfast of oatmeal and fruit, there’s a very good chance you’re not going to make great food choices as the day goes on.
And as you age, it’s important to not slack on your intake of these nutrients as they are critical for your overall health.
The single best way to avoid this nutrient pitfall is to take your mom’s advice and make time for breakfast.
Remember, eating a healthy breakfast doesn’t require that you make a feast. Whole grains like oats and millet are chock full of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Top the cereal with a handful of sweet berries and some milk and you have all your nutrients covered!
And if you are strapped for time and can’t eat a cooked breakfast, grab a piece of organically grown fruit to ensure you’re getting plenty of vitamins and minerals.
To making time for breakfast,
