When it comes to diets, I’m not one to mince words about the countless number of fad diets out there.

And trust me there are plenty of them, like…

Low-calorie… low-salt…gluten-free…

YOU NAME IT!

Most of these fad diets are nothing more than unsustainable eating plans that yield no real long-term results.

But thanks to new research, there is one “fad diet” I do think every senior needs to follow.

Let me explain…

According to a study published in the journal Nutritional Neuroscience, eating a HIGH FIBER diet can reduce your risk of developing dementia.

It’s no secret that a high fiber diet is synonymous with regularity and good digestive health…

Heck, nearly every food manufacturer these days slaps a HIGH FIBER label on the product when given the chance!

But eating enough fiber isn’t just good for your bowels… it’s also good for your brain.

Researchers found that folks who consistently ate higher levels of soluble fiber (found in foods such as oats and legumes), had higher levels of beneficial gut bacteria.

But what exactly does the gut have to do with the brain?

Well, it turns out that eating soluble fiber regulates the composition of gut bacteria. This composition can affect neuroinflammation, which plays a role in the onset of dementia.

Eating the proper amount of fiber on a daily basis can also reduce other common risk factors for dementia like obesity and high blood pressure.

But here’s the problem… most Americans (especially older adults) simply DON’T EAT ENOUGH FIBER!

In fact, it’s estimated that 95% of Americans don’t eat the recommended amount of fiber each day (about 14 grams per day).

But getting enough fiber isn’t just loading up on whole grains (or anything labeled as such). To ensure you’re getting enough fiber, you need to also be eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats like avocados.
