CRASH dieting could WRECK your metabolic health
If you’ve ever been on a diet…
Then you probably know about diet FAILS.
Because MOST diets are so RESTRICTIVE and HARD to follow… they DON’T last forever.
In fact, too many dieters find themselves losing SOME weight… falling OFF the wagon… and gaining ALL the weight back…
And then some!
Then, what choice to they have but to go BACK on a diet to try to shed those extra pounds?
It’s called “yo-yo dieting”… and it doesn’t just DESTROY your morale.
It could also WRECK your metabolic health… possibly setting you up for diabetes!
Let me explain.
If you’ve ever STARVED yourself to try to lose some weight for ANY stretch of time…
You might’ve GONE OVERBOARD on the treats afterwards… just to make up for the PUNISHMENT you’d endured while dieting!
But even if you just went back to the way you were eating BEFORE the diet…
New research shows how swinging back and forth between these EXTREMES of caloric intake could have a DEVASTATING impact on your health in the long term.
In a new animal study, researchers restricted one group’s food consumption for a period of time and then let them return to their normal feeding schedules.
Compared to the group that was allowed to eat consistently throughout, the “diet” group showed REDUCED kidney function… and INCREASED insulin resistance.
Both of those are red flags when it comes to type 2 diabetes risk…
And other research has shown that yo-yo dieting (or “weight cycling”) could alter other metabolic conditions (like your fat composition, including belly fat) that could lead to the disease.
Now, the calorie restrictions in the study took place over the course of WEEKS at a time…
So it’s different than intermittent fasting… which limits your calorie intake for a few hours or a single day.
With that style of eating, your body and brain RESPOND as though they’re being starved… which helps TURBOCHARGE metabolism, immunity, and even cognition.
And unlike yo-yo dieting, intermittent fasting could help INCREASE insulin sensitivity.
The takeaway here?
Choose a healthy style of eating you can stick with in the long haul… so your diet efforts don’t CRASH and BURN.
