You may have heard how glucosamine could help EASE arthritis pain and joint discomfort… often in conjunction with chondroitin.

But it turns out that this “connective tissue compound”… which our bodies naturally produce in certain amounts… has even MORE to offer.
According to a new study out of West Virginia University, it could help keep you out of an early grave!
Now, there’s no food source of glucosamine… so the study looked at the effect of taking supplements (which are often manufactured from shellfish) in over 16,000 subjects.
With other factors being equal, those who supplemented with glucosamine/chondroitin daily for at least a year saw their all-cause mortality DROP by 39%.
That means death by ANY cause.
When the researchers drilled down and looked at cardiovascular causes of death more specifically…
Like stroke… coronary artery disease… and heart disease… ALL of which could be KILLERS…
They found that glucosamine/chondroitin supplementation was linked to a mortality risk that dropped by 65%.
In a release, the study authors explain that this reduction in premature mortality is about the same as the effect that regular exercise would have…
Although the findings supporting the longevity benefits of exercise vary… with some research showing reduced mortality particularly in younger folks.
Besides, exercising regularly… whether it’s moderate activity for 30 minutes or more daily or vigorous activity for 20 minutes 3X a week, as measured by one study… just may not be possible for some older folks.
There’s another elephant in the room when it comes to these latest findings…
And that’s the fact that some of the folks in the study were taking glucosamine on its own… while others were supplementing with a glucosamine/chondroitin combo. And the researchers treated both supplements as though they were just glucosamine.
Fact is, a 2021 review out of Switzerland highlighted the life-extending potential of chondroitin on its own — specifically, a supplement form known as chondroitin sulfate.
But most times, researchers look at glucosamine and chondroitin together…
Which tells me maybe you don’t need to BOTHER messing around with just glucosamine on its own.
Since supplement makers tend to source glucosamine from crabs and shrimp, you’ll want to stay away if you’ve got a shellfish allergy.
And since chondroitin comes from cow cartilage… it’s not suitable for vegetarians.
