HIDDEN culprit could turn RESTFUL sleep into a RUCKUS
We say someone’s “sawing logs” like that’s a GOOD thing…
As though that “chainsaw” sound is a sign of getting a night of DEEP, RESTFUL sleep.
Unfortunately, in reality, itoften means just the OPPOSITE.
The sad truth is that snoring doesn’t just keep your spouse up at night.
It could wake YOU up, too!
And it could keep you from getting that RESTORATIVE sleep that prepares you for a productive next day.
Now, sometimes snoring could be a sign of congestion (as with seasonal allergies or a respiratory infection)…
A physical obstruction (like a deviated septum, swollen adenoids, nasal polyps, and more)…
Or a disorder like sleep apnea.
It’s important to rule those out by seeing your family doc or a specialist (like an ENT or a sleep doc).
But there could be something ELSE contributing to the racket you’re making throughout the night…
And it’s something most folks might NEVER think of.
You’ve done the sleep study… changed your pillows… and even cranked up the humidifier…
But you’re STILL snoring up a storm.
Your spouse thought it was “cute” at first…
But hearing it night after night… year after year… it’s started to wear a little thin.
And maybe YOU’RE not feeling as refreshed as you could be in the morning – even after a full 8 hours.
Friend, I URGE you to look into one culprit that might’ve MISSED your doc’s radar…
And that’s the medicines you’re taking.
Now, snoring isn’t the only hidden risk of certain meds. Some drugs have also been linked to type 2 diabetes… elevated BP… and excess cholesterol levels.
But the ones that could put you in the crosshairs for a snore storm include… pain meds (including opioids)
muscle relaxants
benzos (a.k.a. anxiety meds)
sleeping pills
and more.
Basically, it’s anything that RELAXES the muscles in your throat!
It’s the same reason why you might snore more after a night of indulging in too much wine or other spirits – because alcohol, just like some of those drugs I just mentioned, acts as a tranquilizer.
You might THINK they’ll help you sleep BETTER…
But in the end, they could lead to the tissues in your throat COLLAPSING in on themselves!
So, before you try sleeping with an “oral appliance” (a type of mouth guard) to help QUIET YOU DOWN in the middle of the night…
Before you commit to something expensive… invasive… or risky (like surgery)…
Talk to a doc about ADJUSTING your meds.
LOWERING your dosage… or SWITCHING to a different type of med might be just enough to do the trick.
There’s something else that could help SILENCE that chainsaw noise at night – losing weight! Obesity has been linked to both snoring AND other sleep troubles.
