Could this crazy ‘crib trick’ help YOU sleep like a baby, too?
Your mind is RACING…
Your heart is POUNDING…
And you just can’t keep your eyes SHUT.
You’re REPLAYING everything that’s happened today in your mind… and WORRYING about everything that you’ve got to do tomorrow.
All that mental “noise” is keeping you from getting a good night’s sleep…
And you wish you could just flip a switch to QUIET IT DOWN!
Friend, it may not SEEM as easy as turning off the lights before going to bed…
But maybe it could be.
I’ve got an Alpine “sleep secret” I want to share with you today.
It’s STEEPED in deep folk tradition… but it’s also got SOLID science backing it up.
Smells like a good night’s sleep
The stone pine (Pinus cembra) is an evergreen tree that’s also known as the “Swiss pine.”
It grows in the Alps as well as rocky mountaintops throughout the rest of Europe. And this is one tough tree, too – because it can survive even the COLDEST temperatures of the highest elevations in Siberia!
There’s no doubt that this pine tree is beautiful…
Which is why it’s sometimes planted in gardens for its ornamental value… trimmed into bonsai trees… and even carved into wooden sculptures.
But there’s something else really intriguing about the stone pine wood…
It could help you sleep better!
Now, stone pine is used traditionally for its respiratory benefits… and is even available as an essential oil for aromatherapy…
So, we know that it could help keep you from coughing or having breathing troubles while you’re lying in bed.
But its sleep benefits appear to extend BEYOND that.
Stone pine is also known for its RELAXING properties… literally SLOWING DOWN your heart rate…
And its ability to encourage DEEP SLEEP.
That’s why it’s so common to find beds, cribs, and other bedroom furnishings made out of stone pine lumber in Europe…
As well as bedroom walls and ceilings paneled with it!
In some countries, you can even buy pillows that are filled with wood shavings from the stone pine tree… and mattress covers INFUSED with its essential oil!
Now, this may SEEM like just a ploy to sell fancy and expensive furniture and bedding…
But take a closer look at the science, and it makes sense.
The substance alpha-pinene… responsible for that “pine tree smell”… has been shown in research to target the neurotransmitter GABA to help the brain “switch off” when it’s time to sleep.
That brain chemical action could help you fall asleep FASTER… and even sleep BETTER.
Another pine tree substance, called 3-Carene, works similarly…
And a 2019 study out of Korea shows how it could help you sleep LONGER.
Stone pine in particular also contains the substance pinosylvin… which has been shown to exhibit pain-relieving qualities.
But here’s the clincher…
In a study out of Austria published last year, subjects FELT BETTER in the morning after sleeping on beds made from stone pine wood!
In that study, the “placebo” was a bed made of regular ol’ chipboard that LOOKED just like the stone pine bed.
But obviously it WORKED differently.
And the researchers had the clinical evidence to prove it – including more RELAXED breathing and a LOWER heart rate.
Sleep quality was also ENHANCED… especially during the first few hours, which can be fitful in folks with sleep troubles.
Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean you need to redecorate… or move into a stone pine log cabin.
But it may be helpful to try stone pine essential oil aromatherapy to start. You may need to look for Swiss or German products, some of which may be labeled “alpenschlaf” (“schlaf” means “sleep” in German).
