Could THIS be why so many Americans CAN’T BREATHE?
Friend, I’ve shared with you before how some of Big Pharma’s drugs are OVERPRESCRIBED…
And how there are MULTIPLE conditions that could be resolved naturally… WITHOUT drug interventions.
A good example is antibiotics.
But that’s not all.
Some seniors in particular are on TOO MANY pills – often taking one med to offset the side effects of another!
There are the drugs that can CAUSE diabetes… high cholesterol… depression… and even dementia.
It’s no wonder why SO many folks are on blood sugar-lowering meds… statins… antidepressants… and more.
But recently I was doing a little digging into the most prescribed drugs in the country…
And I was SHOCKED to find one particular type of Rx medicine ranking so high.
I’m talking about respiratory drugs for breathing problems.
So… what’s going on here?
Hint: It’s got NOTHING to do with COVID-19.
GASPING for air
According to data from the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the 5th-most prescribed drug in 2019 was albuterol.
That’s a drug for folks who have trouble breathing… or are coughing, wheezing, and experiencing shortness of breath…
But NOT as a result of infections.
It’s NOT widely used for the common cold… or flu… or COVID-19.
It’s a bronchodilator (in the form of an inhaler) given to treat the symptoms of lung diseases – CHRONIC conditions like asthma and COPD.
It’s not a cure…
So, it’s likely that once somebody STARTS taking it… it could become a LIFELONG commitment.
And some folks start on an inhaler like this one in childhood!
But this makes me wonder…
Why are Americans having SUCH difficulty breathing? Have we been IGNORING our respiratory health that badly?
Asthma exists in as much as 13% of the population of American seniors aged 65 and up… and many of those cases are considered “late onset.”
They can be triggered by smoking… environmental toxins… seasonal allergies… and guess what else.
DRUGS!
One of the BIGGEST culprits behind drug-induced asthma is aspirin. There’s even a name for it: aspirin sensitive asthma.
And until VERY recently, aspirin was being PUSHED on older Americans to prevent heart attacks and stroke – even if they had NO prior history!
A recent study showed that at least HALF of folks over 75 with no prior cardiovascular event were STILL taking a daily aspirin… even though it’s NO LONGER recommended.
Another culprit behind asthma triggered by medicine is another pain reliever – or, rather, an entire class of them, known as NSAIDs.
That’s right, even widely used OTC painkillers like ibuprofen and naproxen!
And while acetaminophen has been SUGGESTED as a safer alternative… it hasn’t been found to NOT cause asthma.
There’s a third type of drug that’s been linked to asthma – and that’s blood pressure meds.
Turns out, beta blockers and ACE inhibitors can make your bronchial airways MORE sensitive… and even MORE obstructed!
And ACE inhibitors specifically have been associated with the development of a cough… which can FEEL like asthma.
Here’s the scary part of this…
Asthma can be MORE COMPLICATED in seniors…
And can have a death toll that’s 5X that of younger asthmatics!
That’s because with age, older folks experience:
- IMBALANCED inflammation
- WEAKER muscle control of respiratory function, and
- LESS elastic lung tissue.
If your breathing feels CONSTRICTED… or you’ve developed a new cough…
Don’t shrug it off.
Get your lungs checked out.
Try ELIMINATING potential triggers – which can include dust, dust mites, mold, toxins, and even dry, cold air.
And if you’re taking any of the drugs I just mentioned that are known to possibly trigger asthma… and your doc tries to put you on ANOTHER drug to treat your respiratory symptoms…
Talk to him about your options for getting off the OFFENDING drug.
Keep in mind that respiratory troubles aren’t LIMITED to the drug classes I mentioned earlier – and that difficulty breathing or a severe cough could be a sign of a serious allergic reaction to a new drug you’ve started taking.
Get help right away.
P.S. It may take some time to RESTORE your respiratory health after removing potential triggers. Some natural remedies for asthma that you could consider trying in the meantime include forskolin… adenophora root… and THIS Ukrainian secret.
