DITCH this ‘killer chemical’ to stay out of an early grave
Friend, there are a lot of things that could kill us in this life.
From car crashes… to cigarettes, obesity, falls, and opioid overdoses…
The tragic truth is that the MOST LIKELY causes of death are PREVENTABLE.
In fact, the National Safety Council estimates that Americans’ odds of dying from all preventable causes is 1 in 24.
These AREN’T “acts of God”… like a storm… a lightning strike… or a raging inferno.
But somehow… the right steps AREN’T being taken to keep those deadly risks at bay.
And now, we’ve got to add yet another potentially LETHAL factor into the mix.
It’s something we’re ALL exposed to… likely, on a daily basis.
NOBODY should die from this deadly culprit.
Don’t let it send you into an early grave.
Here’s the risk you need to know about… and what you could do to AVOID it.
The grim reaper… CASHING IN on chemicals?
According to a just-published study, what’s killing older Americans before their time is a class of synthetic chemicals used to make “soft” plastics and other products.
They’re called phthalates, and they’ve been nicknamed “everywhere chemicals”…
Because they’re found in everything from household items like vinyl shower curtains and garden hoses…
To certain cleaning products, certain beauty products, and even dentures…
To food packaging like plastic wrap, plastic beverage bottles, coffee cups, and fast food containers…
And even ACTUAL food, like cooking oils and macaroni and cheese!
That means we’re not just TOUCHING these chemicals…
We’re INGESTING them!
In fact, traces of phthalates could be found in the urine of nearly every single American.
This latest study looked at urine samples of over 5,300 American adults as part of the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey…
And after crunching the numbers, the study authors estimated that phthalate exposure could be responsible for over 90,000 premature deaths per year.
Mind you, these are early deaths from ALL CAUSES!
That’s because phthalates’ effect on our bodies appears to be WIDESPREAD.
Known as endocrine disruptors, they MESS with our hormone levels… which could cause SYSTEMIC problems…
But that’s not all.
They could also SABOTAGE our immune defenses… and help the pounds PILE ON!
Some of the individual chemicals you should be looking to DODGE include…
- BBzP (Butyl benzyl phthalate)
- DBP (Dibutyl phthalate)
- DEP (Diethyl phthalate)
- DMP (Dimethyl phthalate)
- DEHP (Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate)
- DiDP (Di-isodecyl phthalate)
- DINP (Di-isononyl phthalate)
- DnOP (Di-noctyl phthalate)
They’re ALL legal (with some limitations for use in toys and other products small children may put in their mouths)…
Despite the evidence of possible risks.
The feds say that phthalates don’t pose a CONFIRMED risk to people…
But this latest study does NOT make me feel very safe with being exposed to these chemicals – especially DEHP, which the authors of this latest study linked to a 10% higher risk for mortality among those 55 to 64 years old.
In fact, those who showed evidence of the highest levels of DEHP exposure had a death risk that was 42% higher than those with the lowest exposure.
The good news is that although it may be difficult to AVOID phthalates…
It’s not IMPOSSIBLE.
Some items may be labeled “phthalate-free”…
But just because an individual phthalate isn’t listed on the packaging (or in a list of ingredients)… that DOESN’T mean it’s not in there!
Manufacturers are NOT required to disclose the content of phthalates in all products.
A good rule of thumb is to avoid plastic products altogether. In the case of food storage, you can swap out your plastic takeout containers with glass or ceramic (but beware of plastic lids).
Even if you’re choosing organic foods… it’s possible that they might be packaged in phthalate-PACKED plastics!
And they might’ve been processed through plastic tubes and other mechanical parts at the factory, too.
Opt for fresh foods when you can.
While phthalates aren’t used as “plasticizers” in your cosmetics and cleaners… they ARE used to amplify fragrance. That’s why a better option might be to choose UNSCENTED or “fragrance-free” versions.
Steer clear of air fresheners, too… and choose 100% pure essential oils instead.
