Mesoamerican ‘miracle powder’ shaves DECADES off your memory’s age
If you’re like me, you’re not totally awake before that first cup of coffee…
And after a long day, you may be ready to MAINLINE caffeine just to stay alert and “with it.”
But in some folks, NO amount of “morning joe” is enough to get those synapses firing on all cylinders.
When it happens to you, you could FORGET the names of people you know… STRUGGLE to come up with the right words… and TAKE LONGER to complete a thought.
All of these aspects of memory can wane a little as you get older…
But you don’t have to just accept them as a fact of “growing old.”
You can RETAIN your quick wit… and STAY sharp as a tack…
With the help of a special powder.
Morning drink for better memory
In pre-Columbian times, Aztecs would drink a version of “hot chocolate” every morning as a pick-me-up.
NOT coffee!
Some cultures in Mesoamerica even thought that chocolate had MAGICAL powers.
And even today, Native South Americans call the source of that chocolate… the fruit of cacao trees (Theobroma cacao)… the “food of the gods.”
I’ve shared with you before right here in eAlert how cacao-derived cocoa flavonols can help STRENGTHEN leg muscles by SHORING UP your vessel health.
But that’s just SCRATCHING the surface of what cacao can do.
Because it can also REV UP your brain power!
For older folks, consuming cocoa flavonols over the long term has been associated with improvements in…
- working memory (which influences decision-making)
- mental processing speed
- attention, and
- word recall.
And it appears to work BEST on those who needed it the most – folks who’d already started to lose their memory or experience impairments in cognition.
And it could take just 8 weeks to significantly turn around your cognitive function!
Imagine being able to SPEED through the Times crossword puzzle…
BURY your opponents while playing Words With Friends or Scrabble…
And WIN OVER new acquaintances without all those um’s and uh’s while you search for the right words.
Now, one theory is that the high antioxidant power of the flavonols could be responsible for the memory benefits…
But that’s not the ENTIRE story.
Because we know that cocoa flavonols also help BOOST circulation…
And your brain ABSOLUTELY needs plenty of blood flow to keep working properly!
In a 2014 in vivo study out of Columbia University, brain scans revealed MORE blood flow to the hippocampus (or “memory center” of the brain) in folks age 50-69 who consumed cocoa flavonols.
And not just by a little… but INCREASED by as much as 62%!
Those with better blood flow also demonstrated something even MORE important — a 33% improvement in memory.
To put that into perspective, the study’s lead author explained that a subject’s memory could’ve gotten 20 or 30 years YOUNGER over the course of just 3 months!
In that study, the researchers gave subjects 138 milligrams of one particular flavonol, called epicatechin.
You can find epicatechin on its own in supplement form…
But you’ll get the BIGGEST bang for your buck by supplementing with mixed cocoa flavonols.
They’re extracted from cocoa beans by a specialized process — one that differs from how chocolate makers produce their candy bars.
The candy-making process actually DESTROYS most of these flavonols!
A clinically researched dose is 750 mg.
