TURN AROUND your diabetes risk with this Mediterranean island trick
Just a few years ago, headlines were touting fish oil as a “miracle cure” for type 2 diabetes.
Unfortunately, not everybody has been able to experience its MIRACULOUS effects…
Because not everybody loves the “fish burps” you get from swallowing those capsules!
But even if you DILIGENTLY took your fish oil supplements… you STILL might’ve felt DISAPPOINTED with your numbers.
Well, friend, there are a lot of fish oil capsules out there – and NOT ALL of them have the high-quality fatty acids that help contribute to glycemic control.
You need to make sure that oil comes from the RIGHT kind of fish… and contains the RIGHT balance of omega-3s to move the needle in the right direction.
Fortunately, there could be another way…
One that not only comes STRAIGHT from nature… but straight out of the SEA!
A ‘fish fix’ for prediabetes?
The island of Sardinia is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea… located off the western coast of Italy, less than 200 miles from Rome.
It’s the namesake for a small, oily fish called the sardine… which gets PACKED into tiny tins and shipped for folks to snack on all over the world.
You may have NEVER given sardines a second thought – they’re not exactly a delicacy in this country.
But in a game-changing study published just this year, researchers from Spain discovered how eating sardines could help older folks keep type 2 diabetes at bay.
Now, the folks in the study had been diagnosed with prediabetes… which meant their glucose levels were moving towards full-blown diabetes, though they hadn’t quite reached the “official” threshold yet.
In the group that ate sardines, 37% of them were at high risk for developing type 2 at the beginning of the study…
But after snacking on sardines twice a week for a year, that was SLASHED to just 8%.
Clinical measurements showed the “sardine diet” resulted in…
- REDUCED markers of insulin resistance
- INCREASED levels of a hormone that breaks down glucose, called adiponectin
- IMPROVED levels of HDL (or “good”) cholesterol.
ALL of the above factors contribute to diabetes risk – not just blood sugar!
That’s why adding an ingredient like sardines to your diet may be a more well-rounded approach to managing your diabetes risk…
Rather than leapfrogging right into taking blood sugar-lowering meds.
Here’s what else makes sardines really interesting… especially if you’re in the crosshairs for developing type 2 diabetes.
Not only do they contain those diabetes-curbing fatty acids… including both EPA and DHA omega-3s…
But they’re also BURSTING with an amino acid called taurine… which has been shown to help LOWER blood sugar and BEAT BACK complications like diabetic retinopathy.
Now, sardines are traditionally packaged in metal cans… but if you’re looking to reduce your potential exposure to aluminum and chemicals like BPA, look for ones in glass jars.
You’ll also want to check the label to make sure they’ve been wild-caught (not farmed)…
And that they’re packed in organic, extra-virgin olive oil… and NOT soybean oil, which is most certainly GMO.
Other options include sardines that have been packed in water… fish oil… or tomato sauce…
With no salt or sodium added.
Thankfully, sardines are VERY far down the food chain… which means they pose a MUCH lower risk for contributing to your toxic load of mercury or other contaminants.
To miracles that really work,
