ERASE holiday food regrets with this indigestion NEUTRALIZER
Friend, I hope you had a fun… safe… and relaxing Labor Day holiday.
If you indulged in a little too much potato salad… chips and dip… or your meat of choice on a bun… you might be feeling like you’re not quite yourself.
And there’s nothing as BOTHERSOME or DISTRACTING as stomach issues…
Except for maybe the poop problems that follow.
You could suffer through digestive complaints… and just “let them pass”….
But why?
There’s a simple way to NEUTRALIZE the upheaval in your belly… and farther down in your gut…
And it could be as easy as adding 1 simple ingredient to your meals.
Here’s the seed trick that helps the people of India enjoy their spicy dishes… WITHOUT paying the price afterwards!
A digestive care condiment
Ajwain (Trachyspermum ammi) is an herb in the parsley family that’s originally native to Egypt…
But today, it’s most commonly grown in Iran and India.
Its seed-like fruit… a.k.a. carom seed (so named after its other scientific name, Carum copticum)… has become a STAPLE of Indian cuisine, where it adds a little extra spicy kick to curries.
The common culinary use of ajwain revealed its medicinal potential – and now, this “seed spice” is an important digestive therapy in the traditional medical practice of Ayurveda.
Also used in Persian traditional medicine, ajwain is a “go-to” herbal remedy when it comes to indigestion… gas and bloating… nausea… and other digestive discomfort.
It can help tone the organs of your digestive system…
And while its antispasmodic activity can help relieve cramping, its anti-inflammatory action can help alleviate burning sensations.
It can even help relieve diarrhea!
One of its MAJOR benefits is how it can help you digest… and eliminate… the food you eat more quickly.
It helps to SPEED UP the process of stomach emptying by OPTIMIZING the release of digestive juices, like stomach acid… digestive enzymes… and bile acids.
Research on animals shows that it can QUADRUPLE the production of these “juices”!
And because undigested food is no longer FESTERING in your gut… you could experience a laxative effect thanks to ajwain, too.
Even better, ajwain has shown to help BALANCE the gut microbiome…
And an IMBALANCE in the “good” and “bad” bugs in your gut can WREAK HAVOC on your digestive system!
Ajwain essential oil contains around 50% of an antimicrobial substance called thymol – also found in thyme (which explains their similar aroma).
And as I’ve shared with you before, thyme is a potent germicide… thanks to its thymol content!
Fortunately, ajwain’s antibacterial action could fight food-borne bugs like Salmonella and E. coli.
It could also protect against peptic ulcers, often caused by the bacterium H. pylori.
Ajwain also exhibits antifungal power… which helps beat back yeast overgrowth…
And it can even keep parasites at bay!
Ajwain is also known by its Sanskrit name, “yavani”… and is part of the Ayurvedic formulation of Yavani Shadava Churna.
In European countries like France… Germany… and the Netherlands… it’s known as “ajowan.”
You’ll find whole or powdered seeds… or ajwain oil… at your local Indian spice market or online.
You can also look for a digestive tonic beverage that’s popular in India, called “omum water,” which contains a liquid form of ajwain (a.k.a. “omum herb”).
Indian folks drink it after an “upsetting” meal… and feel practically INSTANT relief.
And if you can’t find ajwain, you don’t have to leave empty-handed…
Because it’s closely related to other herbal digestive aids, like caraway… fennel… and anise.
To eating without upset,
Melissa Young
