As we get older, it can feel like our brains are no longer firing on all cylinders.

In fact, sometimes it may feel like your ol’ melon just keeps MISFIRING!

Maybe there’s a GAP between what your brain tells your body to do… and what your body actually DOES.

Or maybe one side of your brain has forgotten how to talk to the other side.

Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to check “under the hood”… and find out what’s gotten UNPLUGGED.

But scientists think they’ve figured out why certain messages in your brain don’t get delivered.

And more importantly, they’ve discovered how to REPAIR missing connections — especially the ones that can IMPAIR your cognitive function.

What they’ve found may surprise you — because it’s an ancient “hangover remedy” that dates back THOUSANDS of years!

When something cuts the wires in your brain…

Japanese raisin tree (Hovenia dulcis) is native to Japan, Korea, and some Southeast Asian countries…

But it’s Traditional Chinese Medicine that’s been brewing its leaves into a tea to treat liver ailments since about 600 B.C.

Over the last couple of millennia, the raisin tree has earned a reputation as a cure for “hangovers” – that is, that it can OFFSET the negative effects of drinking too much alcohol.

It doesn’t just help your body metabolize alcohol at lightning speed

It also helps ERASE alcohol’s toxins from your body.

Now, if you’re a teetotaler… or you only indulge in an “adult beverage” on special occasions… you may be wondering what the Japanese rain tree can do for you.

This tree’s fruit – the “raisin” — contains a flavonoid called dihydromyricetin, or DHM for short.

And it turns out that the mechanism that DHM uses to stop alcohol from affecting the brain can help cognitioneven if you haven’t had a DROP to drink!

You see, folks who suffer from cognitive impairment… like the memory lapses associated with age-related conditions like Alzheimer’s… are MISSING something in a CRUCIAL signaling pathway.

It’s related to the gephyrin-GABAA-receptor – and while the science is a little complicated here, it’s enough to know that GABA is the brain chemical (or “neurotransmitter”) associated with remembering, learning, and paying attention.

The way that DHM targets GABA to protect your brain from a boozy bender can also RECONNECT those broken brain networks that can result in lapses in memory and focus.

That’s right – DHM could help REVERSE the pathology that leads to cognitive impairment in the first place!

Studies have shown how DHM works in other ways to boost your brain… including its antioxidant power. For instance, DHM can halt the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which cause oxidative stress.

It can even help improve the function of the “energy powerhouses” (or mitochondria) in your brain cells.

There’s more…

INHIBIT inflammatory responses and programmed cell death in the “memory center” of the brain, the hippocampus.

That means DHM could help keep healthy brain cells from DYING OFF… and help stop brains from SHRINKING!

And the way that it zeroes in on the AMPK/SIRT1 signaling pathway… and boosts the expression of SIRT1 (the “youth gene”).

Between that… and triggering your brain to “take out the trash” by getting rid of old dying neurons (a.k.a. autophagy)… DHM could actually help your brain grow younger!

Now, if you’re worried about your own cognitive function, you want to see real-life RESULTS.

So, what could DHM actually do for you?

In a 2019 study on mice, DHM helped REVERSE Alzheimer’s-induced impairments in memory and spatial exploration ability and learning.

They escaped their mazes more quickly than before the treatment…

And a 2014 study on Alzheimer’s-impaired mice showed how this ingredient IMPROVED cognitionREDUCED anxiety levels… and even BEAT BACK seizures (a symptom that strikes 17% of human Alzheimer’s patients).

The only trouble with DHM? It’s not the most bioavailable nutrient in the bunch.

It doesn’t dissolve in water. In fact, DHM hates water!

If you don’t take the right version of DHM, your body could just eliminate it before it has the chance to work its magic!

So, you need to take a version that has MAXIMIZED its solubility (and therefore bioavailability).

That might mean a ready-to-drink liquid form, like Morning Recovery.

It was developed by the same USC researcher who has pioneered the study of DHM as a brain-boosting ingredient

And even though it’s sold as a “hangover cure,” its star ingredient is DHM. And it may be the most soluble form of DHM out there (certainly more than in capsule form).

I wouldn’t be surprised to see new forms of DHM supplements emerge with patented, standardized extracts and OPTIMUM availability.

Keep your eyes open, and I will too – so I can share the latest with you right here in eAlert.

Meet the Health Sciences Institute

The Health Sciences Institute (HSI) is an independent organization established in 1998. We’re dedicated to uncovering and researching the most urgent advances in modern underground medicine. Things you WON’T hear about in the mainstream.

Whether they come from a laboratory in Malaysia, a clinic in South America, or a university in Germany, our goal is to bring the treatments that work directly to the people who need them. We alert our Members to exciting breakthroughs in medicine, show them exactly where to go to learn more, and help them understand how they and their families can benefit from these powerful discoveries.
