Scientists before him had seen this same substance… but they dismissed it as unimportant.

They considered it an impurity — literally, “dirt.”

And they’d already tested nearly 500 other compounds from Podophyllum. They THOUGHT they knew everything there was to know about it.

But they were wrong…

This substance turned out to be the key reason why the mayapple is POISONOUS, except under very precise conditions

And how it can CHOKE the life out of cancer… without killing YOU in the process.

Now, you won’t find any apples on the mayapple.

When it’s fully ripe in late summer, the fruit is yellow like a lemon. That’s why the mayapple is sometimes called the “ground lemon” (though it’s a member of the barberry, and not citrus, family).

The yellow, ripe fruit is edible in small amounts, as long as you spit out the seeds.

When it’s unripe, it’s green like a lime… and incredibly TOXIC.

The rest of the parts of the plant are poisonous, too.

And that’s because of this intriguing substance discovered by Dr. Stähelin , a type of lignan now known as podophyllotoxin.

No scientist had ever seen anything like it before.

They discovered that it acts as an antimitotic agent, ZEROING in on tissues undergoing rapid cell division… and BLOCKING them from entering the mitosis phase of growth.

By blocking the action of an enzyme called topoisomerase, it causes the DNA strands of cancer cells to break.

And that promotes the “suicide” (a.k.a. apoptosis) of the cancer cells.

In 1966, scientists figured out how to isolate and synthesize a derivative of podophyllotoxin, called etoposide.

Clinical trials began in 1971… and the FDA miraculously approved etoposide for medical use in the U.S. in 1983.

It’s been helping cancer patients – especially those with testicular and small-cell lung cancer— ever since.

That’s right – the feds and Big Pharma actually did something GOOD for once!

They took a natural substance… and harnessed its chemotherapeutic powers to ERADICATE cancer.

And not just any cancer – but one that grows NOTORIOUSLY fast and can spread OUT OF CONTROL.

That’s good… but they can do BETTER.

There are OTHER compounds locked within the mayapple that may ALSO exhibit anti-tumor properties.

But our modern-day pharma execs have IGNORED those… just like those early chemists who paid NO attention to podophyllotoxin.

Now, Big Pharma bigwigs have a good reason to look more closely at the mayapple – because while they’ve successfully synthesized podophyllotoxin in a laboratory, that process doesn’t produce very much of it.

It’s actually STILL more efficient to get podophyllotoxin directly from plants that contain it.

They could extract podophyllotoxin from Indian mayapple (Podophyllum emodi), which grows wild in India, Pakistan, Nepal, and China…

But its extinction is imminent — so there isn’t enough of itto satisfy demand.

That’s why our attention has to shift focus to the American mayapple.

Mayapple is so toxic, you won’t find it in supplement form. It’s just too dangerous to do treat yourself with it.

It is, however, available as one of the few chemotherapy drugs derived from natural sources. It can be taken orally or intravenously.
