Is the best diabetes med not a drug at all?
Has the golden key to curing diabetes been found?
With over 30 million people in the U.S. suffering from type 2, it would be worth billions – the pot of gold at the end of the pharmaceutical rainbow.
Except for one little detail: This amazing way to lower blood sugar and reverse many of the side effects of diabetes isn’t a drug. If it were, you know that Big Pharma would have already swarmed over it like ants on sugar!
Rather, it’s one of the most amazing natural substances on God’s green earth. And I bet you have some of it in your kitchen spice rack right now.
The power of gold
There are probably more drugs to treat type 2 diabetes on the market than there are for any other condition. If you watch television tonight, even for a short time, I’m sure you’ll see a whole lineup of different brands advertised.
And it’s not like all a diabetic needs to do is take one of these medications for everything to be fine and dandy. These drugs can cause some of the worst side effects imaginable, from too-low blood sugar to dehydration, life-threatening ketoacidosis, and even an increased risk of suffering an amputation.
If anything, Big Pharma has found a way to make having diabetes even riskier!
But the amazing substance that appears to be able to reverse type 2 is directly from Mother Nature’s pharmacy, and it’s one of her best – none other than the golden spice turmeric!
As an eAlert reader, you’ve heard about the latest findings on how this pungent orange spice can help avert and treat some of the worst plagues of our day. I’m talking about arthritis, heart disease, cancer, and Alzheimer’s – all conditions that turmeric and the potent compound it contains (called curcumin) are effective against.
And as we now know… diabetes as well!
That was the conclusion of a recent study out of the Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Its lead author, Dr. Ajay Goel, is no stranger to the healing powers of turmeric. We’ve told you about some of his past research, especially an exciting finding about how curcumin has been discovered to be a breakthrough in the treatment of pancreatic cancer!
But in this research on turmeric and type 2, Dr. Goel not only discovered that the compound can improve insulin sensitivity and help reverse the disease… but that it’s 400 times more powerful than that old standby drug metformin.
As if that wasn’t enough, turmeric has been found to be able to “reverse” some of the most devastating damage diabetes can cause, such as harm to blood vessels that can lead to blindness.
Now, if you’re expecting to hear the talking heads on the evening news tell you about these findings, don’t hold your breath.
All of those drug commercials aren’t public service announcements! As you can probably guess, Big Pharma practically supports television broadcasting these days. Why… CBS, NBC, ABC, and CNN would likely have to fold their tents and go out of business if drugmakers stopped advertising with them!
But that doesn’t make this any less of an exciting breakthrough in treating diabetes. Nor does it mean that you shouldn’t give these findings the importance they deserve – starting with incorporating turmeric into your daily diet.
Turmeric is most often thought of as a component of curry. But if you think its use is limited to just Indian cuisine, you’re missing out on the many ways you can benefit. For example:
- Turmeric goes great in stews, soups, on veggies, and in rice. Start out with a small amount and add more to taste.
- A popular and delicious nightcap is a drink made with milk (or almond milk, cashew milk, or any other “milk” substitute), a half-teaspoon of turmeric, honey to taste, and a teaspoon of coconut oil. Heat all the ingredients slowly and take as a nightcap.
- Adding one or two inches of fresh turmeric root to your juicing mix or “bullet” drink is a delicious way to spice up your day. It goes especially great with carrots, citrus, and cucumbers.
And if cooking isn’t your bag, it’s easy enough to find turmeric in supplement form.
While turmeric is extremely safe, if you’re currently taking a medication for type 2, know that when you add the spice to your cooking or take it as a supplement, it’s possible that your blood sugar may drop more than expected. Be sure to monitor your glucose more carefully.
