How to turn back your cardiovascular clock!
If you were to go on a hunt for the fountain of youth, where would you start?
You could go to Florida, where legend says that explorer Ponce de Leon went searching. Or try the hot springs in Fairbanks, Alaska, or bathe in the bubbling mineral waters of Saratoga Springs, New York.
But don’t start packing your suitcase yet. Because according to the latest research, that reservoir of youth has been within our reach all along!
And that means that you can start defying your age right now, from wherever you live!
Young at heart
Researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder appear to have solved the riddle of how to put Father Time in his place.
Their findings shine a giant spotlight on the power of antioxidants – most especially CoQ10.
Now, if you’re thinking that this isn’t brand-new information, you’d be right… sort of.
Because while we all know how important eating your daily “dose” of antioxidant-rich fruits and veggies — along with taking high-quality supplements — is in maintaining good health, this study proves how these compounds can actually reverse the aging process in your arteries.
The Colorado researchers looked at a particular type of CoQ10 and discovered that it can undo the equivalent of decades of blood vessel damage.
Using 20 volunteers from ages 60 to 79, the scientists were able to improve dilation of arteries by over 40 percent — in effect, turning back the cardiovascular clock by up to two decades! And that was accomplished in only six weeks. That’s right, a mere month and a half!
And just like a squirt of lemon juice can keep a cut apple from turning brown, we now know that antioxidants can not only prevent free radical damage… but reverse it as well.
These findings should be a wake-up call for any health professional who refuses to acknowledge that anything other than a drug can restore your health and fix a medical problem – especially since this latest study was published in the notably mainstream journal Hypertension (put out by the American Heart Association, no less).
Of course, this isn’t the first time that some amazing benefits from CoQ10 have been observed. Previous research has shown that its protective powers are so strong that it can safeguard the heart from damage due to chemo drugs!
When we’re young, our bodies produce an abundance of antioxidants (including CoQ10) to fight free radicals. But as we get older, those levels drop.
And despite how vital this antioxidant is to our health, there’s a very good reason why so many people are coming up extremely short – and it isn’t just because of age.
I’m talking about the millions who take statins. If you fill a statin Rx in Canada, it will come with a warning saying that these drugs can deplete CoQ10, and if you’re a patient with “borderline” congestive heart failure, a CoQ10 deficiency can tip the scale and further damage your heart.
In the U.S., however, the FDA works so tirelessly on behalf of Big Pharma’s bottom line that it has never required drugmakers to warn about that statin risk. Mum’s the word!
So, I’m here to tell you what you won’t hear from your own doc, your pharmacist, or the mainstream media (unless you happen to have a subscription to Hypertension): Make sure that you have enough CoQ10 and other antioxidants working for you every day so you can be truly young at heart!
For example:
- Take high-quality CoQ10 supplements, which are easy enough to find — and absolutely necessary if you’ve ever taken a statin drug.
- Focus on the best dietary sources of CoQ10, which include beef, chicken, fish, broccoli, and cauliflower.
- Go for the greens! Spinach and kale are also antioxidant-rich superstars.
- Eat plenty of colorful fruits, such as strawberries (organic only!), dark purple grapes, and other colorful berries that will be coming into season soon.
- Buy plenty of blueberries, which are in an antioxidant category all of their own! Before long, blueberries will be arriving by the truckload in your supermarket. Make sure you stock up on this superfood, which will help you to guard against cellular damage, cancer, heart disease, and inflammation.
Time travel may still be the stuff of sci-fi writers, but being able to turn back the clock on the health of your heart is something we now know isn’t fiction!
