Drugs for knee pain boost heart risk
The word is baked right into the name, but make no mistake about it: When it comes to NSAID drugs, “AID” is the last thing you’ll get!
It’s the other way around.
You’ll need some aid — FIRST AID! Because recent studies show how taking these meds for common pain conditions such as achy knees can make your heart do tricks.
But not the kind of tricks that’ll make you an internet celebrity – though maybe folks will be looking at you while you’re dressed in your Sunday best. And maybe they’ll be talking about you, too… as you lie in a casket, waiting to be put into the ground.
I know that it sounds like I’m kidding, but I’m not kidding.
I may sneak a fair amount of snark into my time on the soapbox, but I wouldn’t kid about something that puts your life on the line.
Even the mainstream has finally been forced to admit the dangers of these drugs – which, of course, WE’VE known for ages.
And while we wait for mainstream docs to actually DO something about it, here’s how you can beat pain without taking NSAIDs.
Send in the clowns
So, back to the drug-induced tricks that you could witness from your ticker.
There are two “greatest hits” I want to tell you about… so you can make sure this is one show you’ll never have to star in.
Trick #1 is when your heart jumps, hops, and skips around like a circus dog. One recent study finds that NSAID drugs can trigger a dangerous irregular heartbeat condition called atrial fibrillation.
If you take prescription-strength versions of popular NSAIDs like ibuprofen and naproxen, your risk of A-fib will jump by nearly a fifth.
And if the rhythm ever gets too crazy, it might even learn a new one that it’ll only get to do once: Play dead!
Because atrial fibrillation won’t just scare you. It can KILL you — especially if it leads to a stroke.
But that’s not the only way it could have you “roll over” into an early grave.
Trick #2 is a disappearing act: Presto-chango! The flow of blood to your heart vanishes!
Peek behind the curtain, and, as you’ll see, it’s not magic.
Your blood supply has been cut off – a classic heart attack, sending you the ER or maybe even the funeral parlor.
I’m not exaggerating. Even conventional medicine sees a problem with the drugs, publishing a warning last year in one of the world’s leading mainstream medical journals.
The report in The BMJ found that taking these drugs for even a week – just one week! who hasn’t done that??? – will increase the risk of a heart attack by between 20 percent and 50 percent.
The researchers TRIED to downplay it a little.
They said that the “overall” risk is small, that each individual who takes the drug will actually see “only” a 1-percent risk of heart attack in a given year.
Holy mackerel! Is that what they call “small”?
Imagine being told you “only” have a 1 in 100 chance of being stabbed while taking out the garbage. I don’t know about you, but I’d tell the trash man that he’s on his own – because I’m sure as heck not hauling the stuff to the curb anymore.
Thing is: We’ve known for ages that NSAID use is linked to heart attack risk. And now, not even the mainstream can explain that link away.
What’s absolutely bonkers about these reports is most people never even needed the drugs or faced those risks in the first place.
If you need AID for your knees, you can get it without NSAIDs. Real AID comes in the form of natural therapies that can stop the damage and restore the joint… and they can do it without any of these heart-stopping risks.
