Study finds statins are a lot worse than we knew
“These drugs should never have been approved for use. The long-term effects are devastating.”
That’s what cardiologist Dr. Peter Langsjoen wants you to know about statins — those cholesterol-lowering meds like Lipitor and Crestor that are given out like candy to practically everyone these days.
And he’s not just saying that because of all the commonly known statin side effects, either. You know, those little problems like diabetes, cataracts, mental impairment, muscle pain and fatigue — and, as I told you just last month, an increased risk of developing cancer.
No, Dr. Langsjoen is specifically referring to one statin side effect in particular that Big Pharma never, ever wants you to know about — heart disease.
It turns out that statins, instead of protecting your heart, may be the real reason behind the current epidemic of heart failure, heart attacks, stroke… and sudden death.
But for once, I’m going to agree with a pharma PR campaign about talking to your doctor about statins. Only not for the same reasons they want you to!
Heart disease in a bottle
Pharma land knows it’s up against a lot of bad news when it comes to its most beloved cash cow — statins.
Despite the intense pain and suffering these drugs put patients through, however, the mainstream has scared millions of us into popping them daily. This fear-based campaign is so successful that Americans buy up an astronomical $7 billion of Lipitor every single year.
And that’s just one brand!
But to make sure those mega-bucks keep rolling in, a new PR effort aimed at those thinking about getting off these drugs has just been launched.
They even got Regis Philbin and his wife Joy snagged into taking part in this “education campaign” intended to get anyone worried about statin side effects to “speak up before you stop your statin” and have a “frank discussion” with your doctor.
I’m all for speaking up, but that doctor discussion shouldn’t be about why you need to stay on these meds, but rather how you can get off and stay off of them!
Because if you’re hoping to prevent heart disease, a statin is the very last thing you want to take.
As Dr. Langsjoen says about the ever-growing number of those with heart disease, “Statins are being used so aggressively and in such large numbers of people that the adverse effects are now becoming obvious.”
Taking statin drugs, in fact, turns out to be a sure-fire way to trigger heart damage, as they can increase plaque buildup in your arteries (atherosclerosis) and “cause or worsen heart failure.”
And that’s about the biggest slap-down for these drugs that you could ever imagine, as statins –especially the “strongest” ones such as Lipitor and Crestor (according to the Cleveland Clinic) –are supposed to “reverse plaque buildup”!
If that wasn’t enough, these drugs can also block a natural process that protects your heart from free-radical damage.
Some of the other horrifying findings in this research include the fact that:
- Statins inhibit vitamin K2, a powerhouse that protects arteries from calcification.
- Statins interfere with the production of vital selenium-containing proteins that protect the heart from free-radical damage.
- Statins deplete CoQ10 — and that giant heart-damaging effect is very well documented.
- Statins are toxic to the power-generators of heart cells, called the mitochondria. This is a biggie, because the heart muscle needs a lot of energy. The drugs also cause a chain reaction that depletes a vital molecule called ATP, often referred to as the “energy currency of life.” The bottom line is that you must have an adequate supply of ATP in your body — or you can’t survive.
Despite these vital findings, this study and Dr. Langsjoen’s concerns have gotten practically no mainstream press coverage whatsoever.
We are, however, being subjected to Regis and Joy making the rounds rattling and off Big Pharma’s talking points like they’re making a commercial for a statin (which, in reality, they are!).
If your doctor refuses to hear what the latest research is telling us about these drugs, waving it aside as if it means nothing, it may be time to find yourself another physician — one who’s more receptive to new findings that go against conventional medical mantras.
Because it’s becoming more and more obvious that the health benefits of statins are nonexistent… but the damage they inflict is very real.
