From super statins to part-human cows, it’s been one scary year!
It’s hard to believe that in just a few hours that giant crystal ball will drop again in Times Square!
And it was a crazy year, alright. From the pending Superbug crisis to “smart” meters secretly installed in our homes that are spying on us and making us sick, to a new FDA head who is so cozy with Big Pharma he probably has his own parking space at Pfizer headquarters!
But some of the news I reported to you this year deserves a special place in the 2015 Hall of Shame. They’re perfect examples of how regulators and politicians have again dropped the ball where our health and safety are concerned!
Screaming “mayday” over a small outbreak of measles back at the start of the year as an excuse, both federal and state officials have ramped up a campaign to have all manner of risky vaccines injected into as many men, women and children as possible. But the kids have been by far the easiest targets.
Trampling over parental concerns about safety and religious freedom, California officials pushed through a fear-mongering bill in June, signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown, mandating that children receive the full schedule of CDC-recommended vaccines or be denied an education — in private as well as public schools.
Gardasil Nation
Rhode Island, meanwhile, launched a medical coup led by a handful of state health officials who initiated a policy requiring that both boys and girls entering the seventh grade be given the highly dangerous HPV vaccines. Vaccines like Gardasil that have been linked to paralysis and even deaths all around the world!
The cow/human mashup
Like a crazy sci-fi movie come to life, scientists have created a human-cow hybrid. That’s right, a herd of cows on a South Dakota farm have been genetically manipulated to be part human.
The cows have already been vaccinated against several deadly diseases, like Ebola, and they’re said to be producing “very high levels” of human antibodies in their “fully human immune systems.” The goal — take this cow/human blood and make vaccines for people out of it.
Now what could possibly go wrong with that?
The statin myth busted
Statins aren’t preventing heart disease — they’re actually causing it.
We know that statin drugs, like Lipitor, can cause cataracts, muscle pains, fatigue and diabetes. But what a study from Japan discovered is that these risky meds can harm us even more — by increasing plaque buildup in your arteries (atherosclerosis) and by both causing and worsening heart failure.
But don’t expect this kind of news to put a damper on the statin feeding frenzy going on. When just one statin — Lipitor — is worth $7 billion a year in sales, it’s going to take more than mere heart disease and death to put a stop to this insanity.
The Frankenfish that came to dinner
Forget the test tube soy and corn, what the FDA approved at the end of the year is the biggest and riskiest man-made mutation to swim upstream yet!
It’s AquAdvantage, a new kind of salmon that’s a genetic combo of three different kinds of fish. And it’s the very first GM animal ever approved for human consumption. Oh, and it’s so risky to breed that the FDA will only allow it to be produced outside of the U.S.!
Is it safe to eat? No one really knows. But not to worry, because millions of us will be the unpaid guinea pigs every time this salmon lands on our plates for dinner.
Border Patrol
At the very last minute, while the rest of us were distracted with the holidays, Congress passed a law stripping away at country of origin labeling on meats. Meat from Malaysia? Sure. Chicken from China? You bet. And you will be betting…that it’s safe. Your best bet is to buy direct from local farmers…otherwise you’ll have no idea where that filet on your dinner plate flew in from.
Who knows what other insane and risky plans the FDA, Big Pharma and the biotech industries will have in store for us in 2016?
The only thing I know for sure is that there will be no shortage of news to tell you about next year…so stay tuned.
And Happy New Year!
