Is it far fetched to call this vitamin a Fountain of Youth? Well…maybe not
Could niacin be the new Fountain of Youth?
Researchers found that niacin (also known as vitamin B-3) works SORT OF the same in roundworms as in humans. And roundworms live longer when fed niacin.
It’s been a while but I checked the e-Alert archives and there it was. In 2006 I wrote about a gene called SIR2. It makes a protein that surrounds cells with a protective barrier. Without that barrier, cells deteriorate and the body ages.
And guess what helps maintain healthy SIR2? You got it…niacin.
High levels of dietary niacin have also been linked to lower triglycerides. Lower triglycerides means lower inflammation. And lower inflammation makes everything in your body work better and reduces your risk of chronic disease.
You can add niacin supplements but if you’re worried about that famous flush — or prefer to get it through your diet — add more salmon, tuna, chicken, peanuts, mushrooms, and wheat bran to your diet.
