It’s time to set yourself free.

If you’ve been denying yourself a sprinkle of salt on your food, go ahead. Pick up that saltshaker.

Shake it on your eggs, your vegetables — whatever foods you love to put a little salt on.

For nearly everyone, a few shakes of salt will not harm your health. That’s because the saltshaker is not the problem.

A recent marketing survey confirms what I’ve been telling you for some time now. Most sodium intake comes from processed and restaurant foods.

Salt consumption is a small fraction of sodium intake.

But here’s the disconnect… About three in four consumers cook with less salt at home in order to avoid sodium. And more than two in three say they salt their food less. But only one-third cuts back on processed foods or restaurant visits.

For most people, overconsumption of sodium comes in the form of junk sodium. It’s lurking in packages that line grocery shelves. And all those tempting dishes they offer at “party” restaurants? They’re loaded. They’re virtual sodium bombs.

You can read more about forms of junk sodium to avoid here.
