Speaking of good fats…

If you’ve got an ambitious young student on your last-minute shopping list, here’s a suggestion.

Get him a bottle of fat supplements. More specifically, make sure it contains generous doses of EPA and DHA. Those are omega-3 fatty acids, of course.

In a new study, researchers gave memory tests to subjects between the ages of 18 and 25. Blood tests showed a clear link between high EPA and DHA levels and high scores on the tests.

Of course, your early 20s is the age when your memory is at its peak performance. But you can improve it, apparently.

After the first round of testing, subjects took 930 mg of EPA and 750 mg of DHA daily for six months.

Predictably, omega-3 levels went up. The surprise: memory improved too.

One researcher said he thought it was impossible for healthy young people to improve above their cognitive best.

EPA and DHA. It’s easy to remember. Especially if your brain is getting plenty of EPA and DHA.
