If you want to control hypertension, there’s one simple step you can take that might make a very big difference.

And here’s an added incentive: you’ll also dramatically reduce your risk of cancer, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes.

No, it’s not adding soy…

It’s simple, but extremely difficult. Cut all added sugars out of your diet.

Of course, this is exactly what Dr. Spreen and I have been saying for years. And the mainstream finally caught up.

In a recent “60 Minutes” segment, Dr. Sanjay Gupta interviewed Dr. Robert Lustig, a researcher described as a pioneer in the war against sugar.

It was a fascinating interview. If you missed it, you can still catch it on cbs.com, and I highly recommend it.

For me, the interview boiled down to one amazing exchange. Dr. Lustig listed some of the chronic diseases (see above) linked to sugar intake. Dr. Gupta asked if most cases of these diseases are preventable.

Dr. Lustig’s response: “Seventy-five percent of it is preventable.”

That’s a staggering estimate. And I don’t doubt it for a minute.

Dr. Lustig’s primary message is simple: Sugar is toxic when consumed in large amounts — exactly the way the majority of Americans consume it. Health chaos is the result.
