“If you love me, you’ll do it,” has a whole new meaning for today’s teens
If you’re the parent or grandparent of a teen — or tween, you already know that children face social pressures we never dreamed of back in the day.
But maybe you haven’t heard about this one. The new “If you love me, you’ll do it,” doesn’t have anything to do with sex. It’s all about…passwords.
Apparently, it’s common for kids who are romantically involved to trade each other’s passwords for e-mail, Facebook, ATM cards, etc.
As you can imagine, a shared password could be as dangerous as a lit fuse after a breakup. An angry boyfriend or girlfriend might create all sorts of mayhem within seconds.
I just wanted to give you a heads up in case you hadn’t heard about this modern social pressure.
If you do talk to your teenager about it, here’s your ace in the hole. Tell them that buried somewhere in the Facebook terms of service, it actually says they can lose their Facebook account for sharing a password.
What? Banished to the non-Facebook world? The horror!
Ah! Life was so much easier when your boyfriend was only trying to pressure you into having sex!
