Black box warning: This might cause dizziness, bulging of eyes, gnashing of teeth, etc.
Strictly speaking, this isn’t a health item, but it might cause dizziness, bulging of eyes, gnashing of teeth, high blood pressure, or internal bleeding. So brace yourself…
Today’s e-Alert features two potentially dangerous devices made by GE.
In the case of digital mammography, the machines can cost as much as $600,000, which is five times higher than devices that produce x-ray film.
And according to the New York Times, an FDA approval to use CT scans for colon cancer screening would be “worth hundreds of millions of dollars annually” for GE and other device makers.
The point is that these devices have enriched GE enormously. In fact, in 2010 the company recorded more than $14 billion in profits.
Are you ready for the kicker?
According to ABC News, 2010 was the second year in a row that GE made billions. And yet, in both of those years the company’s federal tax was exactly zero.
Zero.
Wait — there’s more.
ABC reports that in 2010 GE actually received a $3.2 billion federal tax benefit.
When GE says they bring good things to life, I’m pretty sure they’re talking about THEIR life.
