Goodbye to Twinkies? The end of an era looms
How long does a Hostess Twinkie last?
Some reports put a Twinkie’s shelf life at more than 25 days, which is a very long time for a baked product.
Other reports (probably urban legend) have it that Twinkies might be edible for years. If that’s the case, there are Twinkies on the shelf today that will probably outlast Hostess Brands, which may soon file for bankruptcy for the second time in less than two years.
I can’t say I would miss Hostess products. I believe the last time I ate a Twinkie or a Hostess Cupcake Gerald Ford was President. Still, it’s kind of sad to see these iconic American lunch pail treats head off into the sunset.
My favorite comment on the probable Hostess demise is this one from political humorist Andy Borowitz: “Unfortunately, the Hostess bankruptcy will increase America’s dependence on foreign sources of nonfood.”
