Code Red: Is your heart medicine doubling your risk of heart attack!?
Why is Multaq still on the market?!
The FDA has issued a new warning on this heart medication (used to treat atrial fibrillation, or AF) because based on a safety review… well, this drug is not safe.
In fact, according to the warning (and this is a direct quote):
“Healthcare professionals should not prescribe Multaq to patients with AF who cannot or will not be converted into normal sinus rhythm (permanent AF), because Multaq doubles the rate of cardiovascular death, stroke, and heart failure in such patients.”
Allegedly, this drug is not safe enough for people with a chronic form of the condition, but still ok for people with temporary AF.
Please don’t wait for the FDA to change their tune on this dangerous drug! If you’re taking Multaq, talk to your doctor about switching to a safer medication today.
