Hunting for fraudulent STD products, FDA-style
Michele Cagan, who writes the HSI Members Alert every month, sent me this important announcement from the FDA…
“FDA, FTC act to remove fraudulent STD products from the market.”
And Michele’s priceless comment: “You mean…like Gardasil!?”
If only…
But speaking of Gardasil…
After reading about Merck’s “program” to help stem the tide of cervical cancer in Rwanda, a friend of mine sent this message:
“Here’s what I think REALLY happened. Merck knows the cervical cancer rate isn’t likely to go down by giving thousands of girls Gardasil. So they went to that German diagnostics company and said, ‘We’ll buy 250,000 HPV tests and we’ll just tell everyone you donated them to Rwanda so it looks like we’ve got an authentic humanitarian program going here.’
“So with all that HPV testing going on, HPV will be detected, treated, and, most likely, the cervical cancer rate will go down and Merck will be able to go to other struggling countries, point to Rwanda and say, ‘See! Gardasil works! Now how many million doses would you like to buy at our ‘special’ reduced rate?'”
As conspiracy theories go, I gotta say, I’ve heard some that were much more far-fetched. We’ll have to keep watching…
