Daily supplement use may help prevent a common cancer
Here’s some great news for women: Your daily supplement use is doing you a huge favor.
A new study, presented at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, shows that supplement use may play a significant role in breast cancer prevention.
More than 700 women participated in the study. Approximately one-third had breast cancer. Researchers gathered information about supplement use during the five years prior to the study, and blood samples were taken to determine each subject’s DNA repair capacity.
Results:
– Multivitamin use cut breast cancer risk by more than 30 percent
– Use of calcium supplements was linked to a 40 percent reduced risk
– Use of vitamin A, C, and E supplements was linked to lower risk as well
Researchers note that these supplements appear to support breast cancer prevention more effectively when taken together rather than individually.
