Here’s another blow for those medical mainstreamers who love to crack this hilarious bon mot: Vitamin supplements just give you expensive urine.

In a new study from Seattle’s Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, medical records of more than 77,000 adults over the age of 50 were followed for five years. Supplement use for each subject was recorded at the outset of the study.

Results:

  • Risk of cardiovascular disease was reduced among those who took multivitamins and vitamin E
  • Mortality rate during the study period was lower among those who took supplements of vitamins C and E

I’ve never had the value of my urine assessed. But if expensive urine helps extend my lifespan, I’d call that priceless.
