What is my pet eating?
What is my pet eating?
Safe to say, that question has been asked quite often over the past couple of months as we’ve received one new warning after another about dangerous components that have shown up in various pet foods.
Many HSI members have been discussing this issue in the HSI Healthier Talk community forums, and some of the postings offer suggestions about the best food brands as well as advice about how to make pet food at home from scratch. (The Healthier Talk forums can be found on our web site at www.hsionline.com, and you can use the easy search feature to locate threaded discussions about pet foods.)
In addition, I’ve just come across a remarkable new resource that will make it easier for pet owners to evaluate a wide range of pet food products.
The non-profit Consumer Wellness Center has teamed up with “Health Ranger” Mike Adams and pet food formulator Dr. Lisa Newman, N.D., Ph.D., to create a nutritional review of more than 500 of the most common pet food ingredients.
- This review is made up of four lists:
- Pet food ingredients (each item is rated with one to five stars)
- Pet food ingredients listed by the frequency at which they show up in different brands
- Pet food ingredients listed alphabetically
- A list of the worst pet food ingredients
You can find the full review on Mike Adams’ News Target web site at this address:
