Obesity now has a theme song.

You may have heard it. It’s featured in a current Burger King TV commercial that opens in an upscale restaurant where a young man takes one look at few tidbits of food artfully arranged on a plate, and immediately bolts from the restaurant. As he crosses the street to the nearest Burger King, he begins singing

I am man, hear me roar,
In numbers too big to ignore,
And I’m way too hungry to settle for chick food

Soon he’s joined by crowds of men, singing the song as they march through the streets, each one clutching a Texas Double Whopper.

“I will eat this meat,” they sing, “‘Till my innie turns into an outie!”

And that shouldn’t take too long. The Texas Double Whopper includes two hamburger patties, American cheese, four strips of bacon, jalapenos, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mayo, and mustard, all jammed between two sesame seed buns. It’s a comically massive combo, and when it’s held close to the camera it appears to be just a bit smaller than a toaster oven.

But that’s nothing. That’s chick food compared to the Texas TRIPLE Whopper.

That’s right – the TV ad doesn’t let on that when a manly man arrives at Burger King to order his first Texas Double Whopper he’ll be challenged to push his innie well beyond the limits of outie with the Texas Triple Whopper.

According to the Burger King web site, the Texas Triple contains:

  • 1,290 calories
  • 770 calories from fat
  • 33 grams of saturated fat
  • 3 grams of trans fats
  • 54 grams of carbs
  • 12 grams of sugars

Hear that roar? That’s the agonizing sound of men (in numbers too big to ignore) as they try to squeeze into last year’s blue jeans.
