CoQ10 and Heart Failure
CoQ10 and Heart Disease
CoQ10 research has shown that this super-antioxidant fuels cellular energy production and repairs free-radical damage to the heart muscle. But can CoQ10 be effective when the heart is in dire trouble?
That question was put to the test in a recent study conducted by researchers at the Lancisi Heart Institute in Italy. Twenty men and three women with chronic heart failure (CHF) were divided into four groups:
- Group one received 100 mg of CoQ10 three times each day
- Group two received the same, plus supervised exercise five times each week
- Group three received a placebo
- Group four received a placebo and participated in the same exercise routine as group two.
After following these regimens for four weeks, results showed that the first two groups had significant improvement in their hearts’ functional capacity compared to the other two groups. In addition, blood flow was increased by nearly 40 percent in the first two groups.
Results also revealed that exercise apparently boosted the absorption of CoQ10 into the blood stream.
