Ear infection alternatives
This Week In The HSI Healthier Talk Community
If you’ve ever spent any time in a house where a child has an ear infection, you may have completely blocked the experience from your memory. And no wonder. It’s no day at the beach. Especially for the child, of course. But even though relief is sometimes hard to come by, HSI members have several suggestions for addressing the problem.
A member named ginny2 starts off a thread titled “Baby with ear infections, please help” with this plea:
“My 8 mo. old grandson is on his 3rd round of antibiotics for ear infections! His nose runs and his cheeks are bright red. I know he is teething but I just can’t help thinking that he is allergic to something. Maybe the formula? If this does not clear up the Dr. is saying tubes in the ears will be next. How do you tell these young parents that their Dr. might not know it all? How do I tell them without sounding like a crazy old grandma (only 49)?”
WillowS: “Perhaps if you present it as trying alternatives, such as changing the formula to one that is hypoallergenic (NOT soy), before subjecting an infant to anesthesia and surgery. That’s what would scare me most and maybe the fact that ‘tubes’ is surgery hasn’t sunk in yet.”
Michael: “The best remedy for an ear infection in the young or old is to fill a shot glass half full of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Fill the remaining glass up with water. Use an eyedropper to put the solution in the child’s ear canal as they lay on their side. Treat each ear twice. It will oxidize any and all bacteria or viruses that are causing the infection.”
Jerry: “Ear infections in children is almost always caused by milk. Take him off milk and you will see an improvement.”
Lianna: “My girlfriend has three children, and once she quit nursing them, they all developed chronic ear infections. They struggled with this for years until she switched from cow’s milk and soy products to goat’s milk and goat cheese. That’s all she did, and after that, no more infections. Simple.
“Originally she used raw goat’s milk, but the children seem to be able to tolerate pasturized goat’s milk, also. She usually buys Meyenberg brand goat’s milk, (when she can’t get the raw milk from the farmer), and Alta Dena brand raw milk goat cheese.
“No male child, (or female for that matter), should eat soy products. Too many phytoestrogens along with a plethora of other nutritional problems.”
