A couple of weeks ago an HSI member named Sam posted a question on the HSI Forum titled “cancer cure secrets.” Sam asks: “I keep reading the News Flash, billion dollar drug company hides astounding natural cancer cureit’s great that the news is out but why isn’t the name of this billion dollar company out there too?”

I addressed Sam’s question in last Friday’s “This week in the Health Sciences Institute e-Alert,” but since then a number of additional comments have been posted in the Forum under Sam’s topic heading. Here’s a sampling:

“The ‘disgruntled employee’ is about as ethical as his/her employer, if the allegation is true. The accuser condemns the employer for letting people die rather than sacrifice profits, which is precisely what the accuser is doing.” Timothy O.

“I find it peculiar that no discussions have been forthcoming in the media about these wonder cures.” John S.

“The HSI response to Sam’s reasonable enquiry seems fudged at best, and suspect at worst. If, as HSI states, they have the evidence of a ‘whistleblower’ why then can’t this ‘evidence’ be made public for the public benefit?” Malcom W.

To understand what a single person might endure if he blew the whistle on a major pharmaceutical corporation, stop by your video/DVD store and rent “The Insider.” This 1999 movie, based on actual events, tells the story of a man who blew the whistle on his employer – a major tobacco company – and then was fired, sued by his employer, suffered a personal smear campaign, and had death threats directed against him and his wife and children. The CBS show “60 Minutes” at first picked up his story, but dropped it under pressure from the tobacco companies.

Tune in one of the national news broadcasts tonight and count the number of commercials from drug companies. You’ll understand immediately why such a story would never break nationally. The major networks simply can’t afford to betray such a lucrative source of advertising revenue.

As for HSI, there’s no doubt that if we attempted to blow the whistle on this drug company, they would need to devote only a small portion of their considerable resources to shut us down immediately. So we weigh our choices and decide: is it better to blow a whistle that would never be heard and lose our business, or is it better to continue to bring you critical information about alternate therapies and cures? We choose the latter, knowing we can ultimately do more good in the long run. It’s unfortunate that we have to make decisions based on survival, but that’s the unavoidable reality.
