The most crucial thing you need to know before you fill that Rx August 9, 2018

Dear Reader, There aren’t too many things you can buy that don’t come with complete instructions — usually in five different languages! A friend, for example, ordered a bird feeder to attach to her window with suction cups… something that’s pretty intuitive, don’t you think? Not according to the manufacturer that shipped it from China, […]

Is your salmon dinner harboring a toxic secret? July 31, 2018

You are what you eat. That old adage has never meant more than it does right now… even if you’re a fish! While we’ve been telling you for years that farmed salmon just doesn’t have the same nutritional bang as the wild-caught variety, some new findings by the University of Pittsburgh will have you thinking […]

The simple way to keep a deadly infection at bay July 30, 2018

Right now, the main treatment for the persistent bacterial infection known as C. diff oddly consists of taking the king of drug that often causes the condition in the first place: an antibiotic. It’s sort of like fighting fire with fire. Often, however, that method gets out of control, and another inferno starts. But what […]

The Rx for sweating that dries you up from head to toe! July 5, 2018

“Don’t sweat it,” “blood, sweat, and tears,” “by the sweat of your brow,” “no sweat.” We’ve sure got a lot of ways to talk about perspiration! But here’s one you never want to say (even if you could figure out how to pronounce it): Qbrexza. It’s the newest drug approved by the FDA — and […]

Coming soon to a store near you: fake meat? June 25, 2018

Finally, it’s time to fire up that grill and enjoy some burgers or chicken out back with your family and friends – one of the true pleasures of summertime! And you’d better appreciate it while you still can. Because real honest-to-goodness meat may quickly be going the way of the rotary phone or the picture-tube […]

The tiny terror lurking in your own back yard June 19, 2018

You might call it a new version of arachnophobia. No, it’s not a remake of that 1990 horror flick with John Goodman. This is real… and really scary. Only unlike the spiders that attacked the people in the movie, the arachnids I’m talking about are really tiny ones. They’re ticks – and they can paralyze […]

Something fishy is going on in Indiana May 30, 2018

Corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay are all leading crops grown in the state of Indiana. But now, there’s going to be something brand-new to harvest in the Hoosier State: the Frankenfish known as the AquAdvantage salmon. The entire AquAdvantage salmon issue should have been dead in the water, but this man-made mutation is back… and […]

Maintain healthy arteries in 3 easy steps! May 18, 2018

Can a pickle prevent heart disease? It just might! Sound crazy? Well, there’s more! There’s also sauerkraut, a Korean dish called kimchi, a milk-based drink called kefir, plain ol’ yogurt, and a type of soy food called tempe. All of these dishes have something very important in common — they’re fermented. And more and more […]

This sweetener should carry a ‘black box’ warning May 3, 2018

Don’t think for one minute that your tax dollars aren’t hard at work! The National Institutes of Health has opened up your wallet to finance research into how best to create a label warning about the link between drinking soda and packing on the pounds. The grant money has already been snapped up by academics […]

Superbugs found ‘hiding in plain sight’ in 27 states April 12, 2018

Two of the most feared superbugs, CRE and CRPA, have now been identified all over the U.S. As CDC scientist Anne Schuchat put it, “We found nightmare bacteria in your backyard.” The result of a nationwide hunt, the CDC’s discovery tells us that these superbugs — which are impossible (or nearly impossible) to kill with […]

Is that antibiotic Rx putting your heart in danger? April 2, 2018

It seems that whenever a study is published showing how a certain drug can cause you harm, you’ll immediately hear from doctors rushing to exonerate the med in question. “Hmm, something else must be going on here,” is their typical response. “And, of course,” they’ll say, “Those people were sick to begin with, or they […]

The ‘cure’ for diabetes may be right in front of you March 15, 2018

I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials that describe how one type 2 drug activates what’s already inside of your body to fight diabetes. Now imagine that one of those commercials shows a patient holding up a spear of broccoli or waving some asparagus around, instead! Well, considering what a group of international researchers just published […]
