Do not fall for this very common, very dangerous medical myth January 11, 2012
“Higher daily dose of aspirin could play key role in preventing heart attacks for those with diabetes.” That’s a headline from a University of Alberta (UA) press release. Now here’s a headline that appeared in MyHealthNewsDaily the very same day: “Common Painkillers May Increase Risk of Irregular Heart Rhythm.” Unfortunately, it’s not fiction. But it could be tragic for any diabetics who are persuaded to take a substantial dose of aspirin every day.
Take the 3-question quiz that could save your life January 4, 2012
I consider myself a good label-reader, and I’ll bet you’ve become pretty good at reading them too. As we’ve discovered over the past few years, you really have to be diligent about scrutinizing food and drug labels — sometimes going so far as to decode certain phrases that seem purposely designed to fool the unwary.
Why boycott Pfizer? For starters: illegal drug testing on children December 29, 2011
this point, you may be suffering from outrage fatigue. If so, I’ve got just the thing for that: a good old-fashioned boycott.
Heartbreaking, but true -- some cancer patients are exploited in the worst possible way December 28, 2011
I want to think that many oncologists are simply offering treatments they know are ineffective in order to give some hope and to make their work just a little bit less heartbreaking. But sadly, that’s probably not the primary reason why desperate patients are being subjected to needless — and worthless — chemo treatments. No, it’s much more likely that it’s all about the billing in most cases…and it’s a national disgrace.
Think "safety first" when choosing a psoriasis treatment December 21, 2011
The narrator was a middle-aged woman, forced indoors, away from her friends, due to “embarrassing, flaky, painful, red patches” caused by plaque psoriasis. Then the tone turned upbeat again after she began using Humira, an injectable drug that treats psoriasis lesions. And the only thing that spoiled this happy scene was a sudden switch to a new narrator who explained…”Humira can lower your ability to fight infections, including tuberculosis. Serious sometimes fatal events can occur, such as…” What’s stupefying is that the FDA allows billions of dollars worth of Humira and other drugs in this class of TNF-alpha blockers (Enbrel, Remicade) to be sold every year while safe alternative methods are available.
A disturbing secret is hidden in the U.S. infant mortality rate December 15, 2011
IMR is the number of deaths of children less than one year old, per 1,000 live births. And any individual country’s IMR is generally regarded as a sort of snapshot of that country’s overall health conditions. So how can a country like the U.S., with such an advanced level of health care, place 34th on the worldwide IMR list?
Want to keep your teeth? Throw out your toothpaste December 13, 2011
In the most fortunate twist of fate, she told a friend about her problems—a friend who just happened to have a sister that held the solution for Winnie’s dental problems. His sister had faced similar problems, and come up with her own formula to fix them. And it worked wonders for Winnie, too. She started using this miracle fix, and it really made a miraculous difference, very quickly.
Stop this toxic world from poisoning you with nature's ancient cure December 13, 2011
Have you noticed that you’re feeling exhausted all the time… for no obvious reason? And your blood pressure is up, and your doctor doesn’t have a solution, except another pill or ten. You have mysterious, seemingly unrelated symptoms—like muscle and joint pain, memory loss, new allergies, appetite loss—that seem sudden and don’t really make sense, symptoms your doctor can’t quite pin a diagnosis on. Your doctor’s not looking in the right place. Because with these types of symptoms, believe it or not, you may be a victim of toxic heavy metal exposure.
You are what you eat, but also what you cook, so don't cook in the microwave December 12, 2011
My jaw dropped — literally — when I checked a recent e-mail message from a prominent alternative health doctor. It was an advertisement for healthy prepared meals that can be eaten right out of the container or heated in your microwave.
This just might be the most ethics-challenged drug company in all history December 8, 2011
When the Wikileaks scandal broke earlier this year, U.S. officials weren’t the only ones with egg on their faces. Executives for U.S. drug giant Pfizer were also embarrassed by a diplomatic cable. Hmmm. Embarrassed? No, that’s not the right word. I think we can assume that nothing embarrasses these dirtbags.
How do you get kids hooked on drugs for life? Test their cholesterol at age 9 December 5, 2011
“Be happy you’re young. When you get to be my age you can’t get through the day without your pills.” That mindset about drug dependency still holds true for a lot of seniors. That alone is bad enough. But what’s really deeply disturbing is when we see our government happily pitching in to brainwash our kids — and their parents — into believing they can’t get through the day without their pills.
Nerve damage may result when intramuscular shots are given in the wrong spot November 29, 2011
If you’re a hospital patient, telling a nurse how to do her job probably won’t win you any fans among the nursing staff. But it might save you from considerable pain. A new report in the Journal of Advanced Nursing indicates that most nurses are not giving intramuscular injections correctly.
