It’s the most common joint disorder in the world…
And if you’re a little bit on the older side, you’re in the crosshairs for this “wear and tear” form of arthritis.
With osteoarthritis, the collagen in your cartilage gets DESTROYED… especially in the joints that bear the most weight.
That could be why your knees feel so stiff and swollen…
Because after enough cartilage gets worn down, all that’s left is bone rubbing on bone!
Mainstream medicine can offer you sickening NSAIDs… or addictive opioids…
But there’s a better way.
And it comes from a common seed with too many OVERLOOKED health benefits!
People have been eating sesame seeds for over 5,000 years now – and not just on a bun with two all-beef patties.
You can also find them pressed into oil… mashed into pastes and “butters,” especially in the Middle East… and toasted as a condiment, especially in Asia.
Throughout multiple languages, its name loosely translates to mean “liquid fat.”
In fact, they’re one of the oiliest seeds out there!
They’re also an ancient Hindu symbol of immortality…
And the seeds of the Sesamum indicum plant can also turn back the clock on your aging joints.
Researchers credit two compounds that they’ve found locked away inside the seeds:
According to animal studies, these compounds SUPPRESS the inflammatory response… while other research has shown that sesame seeds can also REDUCE oxidative stress.
BOTH of those mechanisms were confirmed by a 2013 study out of Iran.
Levels of the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein (CRP) were significantly reduced by the end of the study.
But that’s not all…
Because sesame seed supplementation ALSO significantly decreased levels of an oxidative stress biomarker known as malondialdehyde (MDA).
MDA is a toxic end product that’s specifically associated with the destruction of cartilage collagen. And OA patients generally show higher levels of it.
In the study, patients with knee OA who supplemented with sesame seeds experienced their knee pain decreased by 63% … and their mobility improved.
Translation — the two factors we all care MOST about!
And all it took was consuming 5 tablespoons (or 40 g) of ground sesame seeds per day… over the course of just two months.
Sesame seeds are also a good source of bone-building nutrients, like
- phosphorus, which works with calcium
- manganese, a mineral that works with glucosamine and chondroitin
- selenium, a trace metal that can diminish OA
- and more.
Now, sesame seeds contain high amounts of omega-6 fatty acids – so you’ll want to balance those out with a proportionate amount of omega-3s.
And while they’re incredibly nutritious… they’re also high in calories. So don’t go overboard.
They might not give you immortality… but they could very well make you feel as good as when you were younger!
