The Chinese, however, use shiso a little differently.
It’s been a CRUCIAL component of Traditional Chinese Medicine since the year 500 A.D., when it was included in the definitive Chinese medical text, “Ming Yi Bie Lu.”
Many other seminal medical works have included shiso since, including Li Shi-zhen’s Ming dynasty-era Compendium of Materia Medica, “Ben Cao Gang Mu.”
There’s a good reason why this humble leaf has been so widely accepted as a medicinal herb for so long…
The experiences of all the people who’ve used it over the course of nearly TWO MILLENNIA have proven how shiso:

And now the latest science confirms how shiso also SABOTAGES cancer cell proliferation and tumor growth.
In a 2003 study out of Japan, mice that ingested shiso leaf extract had far FEWER skin tumors than the mice that didn’t – even though cancer had been equally induced in both groups.

According to a 2009 in vitro study out of Korea, shiso leaf extract works on MULTIPLE pathways to convince cancer cells to “off” themselves (a.k.a. apoptosis) when they would otherwise be immortal.
That study was on leukemia cells… but there’s no reason to think it wouldn’t work on other types of cancer, too.
In fact, shiso extract worked the SAME way on liver cancer cells in a 2007 in vitro study.
In that study, Taiwanese researchers observed that shiso leaf extract was even MORE powerful than one of its main constituents, rosmarinic acid, on its own.
Rosmarinic acid has shown to be a powerful anticancer agent, even in cases of metastatic breast cancer…
And another derivative, called PDMF, also induced “cell suicide” in human lung adenocarcinoma cell lines.
