Jane Doe saw it coming
Here’s a bit of information that could come in handy if you’re ever playing “Jenny Thompson trivia”: My mother was arrested and spent 10 days in jail when I was in 7th grade.
I wish I could tell you it’s because she knocked over a liquor store or outran the cops. That would have at least been cool. But as a shy 11-year-old, I was horrified by the real reason. My mother got locked up for protesting against nuclear power…for trespassing. And she stayed in jail for 10 days because she wouldn’t give her name. In fact, I still have a letter from my mother signed “Jane Doe #136.”
Back then, all I could think about is how much she was embarrassing me. But as an adult, and as someone watching days of coverage of the nuclear situation in Japan, I realize how proud I should have been of her for raising her voice about something she knew could create an Armageddon-like catastrophe.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t the only one who tuned out my mother’s voice and the voices of so many others. And while we may have a cheap, “cleaner” energy alternative, we have no idea what sleeping giant may have been awoken in Japan–or how far it will really spread.
But if worse does come to worst, there are simple steps you can take to protect you and your family from radiation poisoning.
Your personal radiation shield
By now I’m sure you’ve heard about the worldwide run on potassium iodide–the first line of radiation protection. But in a recent e-mail I received from HSI Panelist Dr. Eliaz, he warns that potassium iodide use is extremely dependent on timing.
Dr. Eliaz: “Self-medicating with ongoing high doses of potassium iodide is strongly discouraged because of the negative health effects this supplement can have on thyroid and overall health. High dose potassium iodide is only helpful if exposure to a large amount of radiation is imminent and the supplement can be taken 24 hours prior to exposure.”
Dr. Eliaz is an integrative physician who specializes in natural chelation of heavy metals and detoxification. In fact, it was the Chernobyl disaster 25 years ago that inspired Dr. Eliaz to begin his own radiation detox research.
After Chernobyl, children with high radioactive exposure were given modified citrus pectin. When Dr. Eliaz heard how this protocol significantly reduced the children’s radioactive readings, he began investigating this natural treatment for a very unnatural, very modern problem.
Dr. Eliaz explained to me that potassium iodide offers protection from the radioactive isotope known as Iodine-131. But this is just one of several very dangerous isotopes contained in radioactive fallout.
Over the past two decades, Dr. Eliaz has developed a comprehensive chelation and detox protocol, specifically designed to remove heavy metals, toxins and a broad spectrum of radioactive particles from the body.
Step One: If radiation exposure is imminent, protect your thyroid from radioactive iodine by taking a one-time high dose of 130 mg of potassium iodide (children take 65mg) no sooner than 24 hours before acute exposure. Iodine lasts in the body for only 24 hours, and taking more than a one-time high dose is not recommended.
Step Two: Prevent absorption of radioactive particles and remove radioactive isotopes from the body using clinically proven Pectasol-C Modified Citrus Pectin, and a modified citrus pectin/modified alginate formula called Pectasol Chelation Complex. These formulas have been modified to allow their absorption into the circulatory system, so they can chelate heavy metals and radioactive particles in both the digestive tract as well as in the blood stream.
Step Three: Two weeks after starting Pectasol Chelation Complex, follow with a phase two detoxification supplement called Detox Complete, which contains botanicals and nutrients such as cilantro, milk thistle, dandelion, selenium, along with sulfur compounds, all of which help the body protect and detoxify from radiation exposure. The use of Pectasol Chelation Complex and Detox Complete will help to eliminate heavy metals and toxins as well.
Step Four: Protect cellular DNA from damage and mutation with an antioxidant rich diet and extra supplementation. High powered antioxidants and free radical scavengers which can help protect cells from radiation exposure include vitamin C, A, E, lipoic acid, selenium, glutathione, vitamin -D3, beta-1,3 glucan, sea buckthorn, and others. In addition, it is important to consume a diet high in potassium rich foods and dark leafy greens, bulky fiber and plenty of pure water.
Measure your risk
Millions of people in the U.S. and around the world are wondering if they’re at risk of radiation poisoning.
Needless to say, the people of northern Japan are in grave danger. But if major explosions occur at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor, radioactive materials will be driven into the upper atmosphere. From there, the jet stream could carry the materials to just about anywhere in the world.
If you live in the U.S., you can start by visiting a website called radiationnetwork.com. This site gives you radiation readings throughout the U.S., and it’s updated every minute, so it offers an excellent assessment of your risk.
Once you know your risk, then you can take action…
