If you find it hard to get a full eight hours of sleep each night, don’t worry. In a survey of more than 1 million adults, researchers found that people who logged in eight hours per night had a higher mortality rate over the six year study period than people who got between six and seven hours of sleep each night. The research
team found no evidence to support the theory that eight hours of sleep results in better overall functioning than seven hours.

A widening belly should be considered a wake-up call. According to a three-year Canadian study that included nearly 100 men, subjects with a 45-inch waist were three times more likely to die during the study period than men with a 35-inch waist. A rule of thumb: If your waist measures more than 40 inches, you may be in the danger zone.

Sage supplements may help patients with Alzheimer’s disease. In fact, herbalists have known for hundreds of years that sage is useful for improving the memory. The key is an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase (AChE), which breaks down a chemical called acetylcholine that is typically deficient in Alzheimer’s patients. UK researchers have shown that sage inhibits AChE. And in one study where lemon balm was added to sage, the herbal combination improved memory and mood.

High levels of the amino acid homocysteine may significantly raise the risk of vision damage. In a trial that compared 550 age-related macular degeneration (AMD) patients with more than 380 healthy subjects, blood samples revealed that patients with advanced AMD had higher homocysteine levels. AMD is the most common cause of blindness in people over the age of 55. Folate combined with vitamins B6 and B12 has been shown to effectively lower homocysteine levels.

An ample intake of magnesium may help reduce the risk of developing metabolic syndrome, a cluster of interrelated conditions including high blood pressure and elevated blood sugar levels that can be debilitating to good health in a variety of ways. Magnesium is naturally present in green leafy vegetables, avocados, nuts and seeds, and whole grains, but usually only in small amounts. HSI Panelist Allan Spreen, M.D., recommends supplementation with 500 mg of magnesium per day.

Dispute Resolution by Binding Arbitration and Class Action Waiver

Notwithstanding the foregoing, the following shall not be subject to arbitration and may be adjudicated only in the state and federal courts of Maryland: (i) any dispute, controversy, or claim relating to or contesting the validity of our or one of our family company’s intellectual property rights and proprietary rights, including without limitation, patents, trademarks, service marks, copyrights, or trade secrets; (ii) an action by us for temporary or preliminary injunctive relief, whether prohibitive or mandatory, or other provisional relief; (iii) any legal action by us against a non-consumer; or (iv) interactions with governmental and regulatory authorities.  You expressly agree to refrain from bringing or joining any claims in any representative or class-wide capacity, including but not limited to bringing or joining any claims in any class action or any class-wide arbitration.

The arbitrator’s award shall be binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court of competent jurisdiction. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, no arbitration under this Agreement may be joined to an arbitration involving any other party subject to this Agreement, whether through a class action, private attorney general proceeding, class arbitration proceedings or otherwise.
