A ‘ladies’ disease’ targeting MEN?
Most men probably assume OSTEOPOROSIS only affects women.
(It’s alright fellas, you can admit it…)
But here’s the TRUTH about this so-called “woman’s disease.”
Your bones will get weaker as you age—putting you at risk for developing osteoporosis, REGARDLESS of your sex!
And while women technically are at a higher risk of osteoporosis… it doesn’t mean that you’re immune to this bone disease.
So what makes guys susceptible to osteoporosis?
(Hint: it has nothing to do with CALCIUM!)
Researchers from the University of Chicago Medicine say that men with high body fat tend to have lower bone density—a hallmark warning sign for osteoporosis.
Why is this important?
Well, for the longest time, most thought that people with high body weight have high bone density and are at a lower risk of brittle bones (hence the phrase ‘BIG BONED’).
But this study proves that this couldn’t be further from the TRUTH.
In fact, after examining over 10,000 people, the study found that those with a higher fat mass had the propensity of exhibiting lower bone mineral density (especially guys).
In other words, maintaining a healthy weight is one of your best bets at staving off osteoporosis.
Eating a diet rich in protein and vegetables—and staying away from refined sugars—will help you fend off unwanted pounds. And don’t forget to exercise to help burn extra calories.
You can also fortify your body’s natural production of calcium with natto.
When it comes to osteoporosis, it’s important to get screened with your doctor to understand if your bones are beginning to deteriorate.
To strong and healthy bones,
